Ben & Jerry’s Partners With Netflix for New Vegan Ice Cream Flavor
It may still be an icy Hoth world in most parts of the country right now, but Ben & Jerry’s wants you to imagine a warm and cozy couch-like galaxy where the dairy-free ice cream flows like the next series in your Netflix queue.
The ice cream maker has released its newest dairy-free flavor, in a partnership with the streaming giant. The flavor is aptly named “Netflix & Chill’d.” The peanut-butter based vegan ice cream is paired with chunks of brownies and salty pretzels.
"This is the perfect pairing between Ben & Jerry's and Netflix, to bring more magic to millions of fans (taste buds) across the globe," said Matthew McCarthy, CEO of Ben & Jerry's.
Ben & Jerry's Dairy-Free Ice Cream
The new flavor adds to Ben & Jerry’s growing roster of dairy-free options. It first forayed into nondairy ice cream in 2017 after years of development. The flavors, including PB & Cookies, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and Coffee Caramel Fudge were a hit, eventually expanding to markets outside the U.S.
Despite the success and expansion of its nondairy flavors, the Vermont-based ice cream manufacturer has come under scrutiny recently. A lawsuit alleged Ben & Jerry's misled consumers about its relationship with dairy suppliers linked to animal welfare violations.
The Unilever-owned brand recently removed all mention of “happy cows” from its labeling.
“They did not look happy to begin with,” it said in a recent court filing.
The ice cream company has promoted itself as a socially conscious business since its early days. The company was founded by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield and launched in a renovated gas station in 1978. It sold to Unilever in 2000.
